Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ACCRA
Upon arrival in Accra, you will be taken to your hotel overnight.
Day 2: ACCRA CITY TOUR
After breakfast we proceed to a city tour of Accra. Places to visit will include, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the Independence Square and the W.E.B.Dubois Centre for pan Africanism. After lunch we will proceed to the Accra Museum and end the day’s tour at the University of Ghana gardens. We return to hotel for overnight.
Day 3: CAPE COAST CASTLE / KAKUM NATIONAL PARK
Today we will depart for the Central Region to explore the infamous forts, castles, and slave history of the slave trade. We will first visit the Cape Coast Castle, which was built by the Swedes in 1653 and later taken over by the British.
After lunch, we will visit the Kakum National Park the only one of its kind found in Africa. After a walk on the Canopy, we return to Cape Coast overnight.
Day 4 ELMINA CASTLE/ KUMASI
After breakfast, we will visit the Elmina Castle built by the Portuguese in 1482 as St. George’s Castle. This castle was the first European structure built in Sub – Saharan Africa. We later proceed to Kumasi the capital of the Ashanti region. Overnight will be in Kumasi.
Day 5 KUMASI CITY TOUR
After breakfast, we will explore the famous Ashantis at the Manhyia Palace Museum. There you will get a sense of a day in the life of an Ashanti ruler (Asantehene). At the museum, you will learn and obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti Kingdom.
After a drive through the city of Kumasi to view monuments dedicated to the memory of great Ashanti people we visit the National Cultural Center. The day’s tour ends at Okonfo Anokye sword site planted by this famous fetish priest. We proceed to the hotel for dinner and overnight in kumasi.
Day 6 ASHANTI CRAFT VILLAGES
Today we will be visiting the three famous craft villages in the Ashanti Region: Ahwiaa (the wood carvers’ village), Ntonso (the home of Adinkra), and Bonwire (the Kente weaving village). You will have the opportunity to see how West African crafts are made and buy directly from the artisans who make them. We return early enough and proceed to Accra for overnight.
Day 7ABURI GARDEN/ TETTEH QUARSHIE FARM
Today’s tour will take us to the Aburi Botanical Gardens where we will enjoy nature and learn about a vast range of trees and plants. We later visit the Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm where the first cocoa tree brought to Ghana was planted. We proceed to visit the cocoa research institute for a tour of how cocoa is processed into a finished product. We return to Accra for overnight.
ADA ESTUARY
Our tour today will take us to Ada where we will enjoy a boat ride on the biggest man-made lake in the world to the estuary. After a visit to the nearby Islands where we will learn how the traditional Akpeteshi drink is distilled, we return to Accra overnight.
Day 9 MOUNT AFADJATO/ WLI FALLS
Today we will visit the Volta region of Ghana. We shall conquer the highest mountain in Ghana Mount Afadjato. We later proceed to visit the highest waterfall in west Africa Wli falls. After lunch, we will visit the Tafi Monkey Sanctuary. Overnight will be in Akosombo.
Day 10 AKOSOMBO DAM
We will visit the Akosombo Dam. The history of this dam which serves, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Burkina Faso will be explored. We later visit the Akosombo port, Adomi Bridge before returning to Accra. Overnight will be in Accra.
Day 10. DEPARTURE
Today being your last day in Ghana, you will do some last minute shopping before your flight back home.
